About 50 miles east of Kampala lies Jinja, founded by British settlers in 1901. Your home for the next two nights is Lemala Wildwaters Lodge, set on a private island about 15 miles from Jinja and accessible only by boat. Built on a granite outcrop in the middle of the Nile, it is surrounded by powerful Grade Five rapids, with the constant soothing sound of rushing water.
Relax in your suite, spa, dining deck, or infinity-style pool overlooking the river, and watch for diverse birdlife including turacos, cuckoos, hawks, and eagles, as well as giant otters and monitor lizards.
In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic cruise on Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa and the second-largest freshwater lake in the world, shared by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. End the day with a sundowner before returning to the lodge for dinner, with the sound of the rapids as a dramatic natural soundtrack.
Jinja

Begin by kayaking a calmer stretch of the White Nile with an expert instructor. Uganda is home to over 1,000 bird species—around 10% of the world’s total—thanks to its diverse habitats including rainforest, savannah, lakes, wetlands, and the Nile. Learn about the birdlife from your guide as you paddle. After lunch at the lodge, enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Optional activities include spa treatments, fishing, horse riding, or white-water rafting.
Jinja

Set out early from Jinja for Murchison Falls National Park, stopping at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a conservation experience. Covering 27 square miles of woodland, swamp, and savannah, it is home to Uganda’s only wild southern white rhinos—named for their wide (“wijd” in Afrikaans) lower lip. On a guided walking safari, track rhinos on foot with a ranger and observe them safely while learning about conservation and reintroduction efforts in Uganda.
After a light lunch, continue to Murchison Falls National Park, where the Nile is forced through a narrow Rift Valley gorge, creating the powerful Murchison Falls. Arrive and check in at Nile Safari Lodge, set on the riverbank with thatched bandas offering en suite rooms, indoor and outdoor showers, and private decks overlooking the Nile. Relax and enjoy the sounds of rich birdlife, including the iconic shoebill stork.

Murchison Falls National Park, bisected by the White Nile, is home to lions, giraffes, chimpanzees, and Uganda’s largest population of Nile crocodiles. It also boasts over 460 bird species, including shoebills, Goliath herons, kingfishers, hornbills, and turacos. Rise early for a game drive along the northern bank, spotting buffalo, Jackson’s hartebeest, hyenas, and lions in this Lion Conservation Unit. Later, take a boat trip to the base of Murchison Falls to feel its power and look for hippos and crocodiles.

Take in sweeping 360-degree views from the top of Murchison Falls with your guide. Here, the Nile squeezes through a 23-foot-wide gorge before plunging 141 feet and continuing into Lake Albert. With dramatic scenery and the constant roar of water, the summit offers a truly unforgettable breakfast setting.
After lunch at the lodge, transfer to the airstrip for a scenic flight to Kibale National Park, renowned for its 11 primate species. The highlight is its thriving chimpanzee population, alongside Uganda mangabeys, red colobus, black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and blue monkeys.
On arrival, check into Volcanoes Kibale Lodge, a boutique property of eight bandas designed by East African architects and filled with locally made art, textiles, and furnishings. Relax at the spa or pool before dinner, then enjoy a fireside talk with primatologists and researchers for an in-depth introduction to chimpanzee behavior.
Kibale National Park (Chimps)
Volcanoes Kibale Lodge

Set out early as the forest is still and search for chimpanzees. Several families here are habituated to human presence. Unlike gorillas, chimps move quickly through the canopy and on the ground, so you track them with guides and rangers. Watching them swing, play, feed, and groom one another is an unforgettable experience. Pause for a picnic lunch in the forest.
In the afternoon, explore the Bigodi Wetlands on a community walk. Learn about local life, including banana cultivation, Uganda’s staple food, and the traditional production of banana gin, wine, and juice. Taste local coffee, try basket weaving, and enjoy a music and dance performance before returning to your lodge for the evening.

Fly south to Uganda’s gorilla heartland, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park—a remote, mist-covered landscape of steep mountains, dense rainforest, ravines, and winding streams. Home to over 500 mountain gorillas, it is one of the world’s most important primate habitats.
Stay at Gorilla Forest Lodge, featuring 10 spacious, architecturally designed suites set along a hillside. Each suite has a private deck overlooking the forest, with complete privacy and frequent visits from monkeys roaming the gardens.
After lunch, visit Bwindi Village with a guide and explore community projects, including women-led bicycle repair initiatives, recycled paper bead workshops, Bwindi Community Hospital, and a local nursing school. Return to the lodge in the evening to meet the gorilla research team and learn about conservation, tracking methods, and the behavior of Bwindi’s gorilla families before dinner.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Gorillas)

Set off early for a mountain gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Begin with a briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, whose trackers will already have located several gorilla families and assigned one to your group. Trek through dense rainforest, following narrow trails and venturing within a few metres of the gorillas.
Spend up to an hour observing them as silverbacks feed, females care for young, and juveniles play and climb. With habituated families, sightings are highly likely and the gorillas remain calm in your presence. After the experience, hike back through the pristine forest and return to Gorilla Forest Lodge for relaxation and dinner.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Gorillas)

After meeting Bwindi’s mountain gorillas, explore quieter forest trails with an expert ranger on a walk to a scenic waterfall. Along the way, learn about medicinal plants, local forest use, and spot butterflies, rare chameleons, forest birds, and unique insects. Forest elephants are sometimes seen, and occasional gorilla encounters are possible.
Later, visit the Batwa community with a local guide to learn about their traditions, history, and way of life following their relocation from Bwindi in 1992. Walk through villages and discover farming, food, and spiritual practices. Return to the lodge for relaxation before a farewell dinner.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Gorillas)

After breakfast at the lodge, drive to the airstrip and board your bush flight to Entebbe. On arrival, a dayroom has been reserved at Protea Hotel Entebbe, where you can relax, refresh, and enjoy time at leisure before your international journey home.
