Your private safari guide will meet you at your hotel in Kigali and take you to the Kigali Genocide Memorial for an introduction to Rwanda’s history. Afterwards, drive northwest through rolling hills, terraced farmland, and rural villages. After completing border formalities, continue to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where you will arrive at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, transfer to the ranger station for a briefing before entering Mgahinga Gorilla National Park with experienced trackers and a ranger. Trek through the misty forest in search of a habituated gorilla family and, once located, spend up to one hour observing them from a safe distance. After this unforgettable encounter, return to the lodge to relax.

After breakfast, visit the Batwa community to learn about their traditional forest lifestyle, music, and dance. You will also take part in a coffee-making experience, following the process from bean to cup. Later, cross the border into Rwanda and continue to your lodge near Volcanoes National Park for dinner and an overnight stay.
Volcanoes National Park (Gorillas)
After breakfast, transfer to Volcanoes National Park for a guided hike up Mount Bisoke, a dormant volcano with a beautiful crater lake at its summit. Enjoy impressive mountain scenery and excellent photography opportunities along the trail. After the hike, return to the lodge in the afternoon to rest and relax before your overnight stay.

After breakfast, enter Volcanoes National Park to track rare golden monkeys in the bamboo forest. Afterwards, visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund campus and the Gorilla Guardians Village to learn about gorilla conservation and local culture. In the afternoon, transfer to Lake Kivu and relax at your lakeside accommodation.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast by Lake Kivu, then visit the lively markets of Gisenyi if time permits. Afterwards, drive south through Rwanda’s rolling hills and tea plantations to Nyungwe National Park, home to one of Africa’s oldest montane rainforests and 13 primate species. Arrive at your lodge for the night.
Nyungwe National Park (Chimps)
Start the day at 4:30 am with a transfer to Cyamudongo Forest or the Uwinka Visitor Centre for a briefing and chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park. Follow experienced trackers through the forest in search of these active and vocal primates. Later, enjoy the canopy walk, suspended up to 70 metres above the forest floor, with impressive views of the rainforest and opportunities to spot birds and other primates. Return to the lodge for the night.
Nyungwe National Park (Chimps)
After breakfast, enter Nyungwe National Park for a guided trek in search of Angolan colobus monkeys, often seen moving through the forest in large groups. Afterwards, drive back to Kigali, where your guide will drop you off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.

How to Book This Safari

Deposits
A 30% deposit is required to confirm your safari. If your trip includes domestic or regional flights, the full airfare may be required at the time of booking and is charged separately from the safari deposit.
Gorilla Trekking Permit: The cost of your gorilla trekking permit will be invoiced and payable in full at the time of booking. This allows us to secure your permit in advance and share the confirmed permit with you as a supporting document for your visa application.
Final Payment
The remaining safari balance is due 45 days before your departure date. For bookings made within 45 days of departure, full payment is required to confirm the booking.

Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance immediately after booking to protect your safari investment. Your policy should cover trip cancellation/interruption, medical emergencies and evacuation, travel delays, lost or delayed baggage, and repatriation.
Insurance must be arranged independently in your home country. Providers such as Allianz, World Nomads, or Travel Guard may be considered, depending on your country and coverage needs.

120–60 days before departure: 30% cancellation fee
59–45 days before departure: 80% cancellation fee
44 days or less before departure: 100% cancellation fee
Gorilla Trekking Permits: Once purchased and confirmed, gorilla trekking permit fees are non-refundable and will not form part of any refund in the event of cancellation.
Issued domestic or regional flight tickets are also non-refundable, and no refunds are provided for no-shows.

Rwanda and Uganda are year-round destinations, with generally pleasant temperatures influenced by altitude. Kigali is typically warm and comfortable, while the higher elevations of Volcanoes National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park are cooler, wetter, and more changeable. Rain can occur at any time of year in the mountain forests, sometimes making gorilla trekking trails muddy and slippery. The drier periods, generally June to September and January to February, tend to offer more comfortable trekking conditions, although gorilla trekking is possible throughout the year. We recommend packing light layers, a warm layer for cool mornings, waterproof clothing, and sturdy hiking boots, regardless of your travel month.
