Overview – Lake Nakuru & Naivasha
Imagine driving through the Great Rift Valley, a geological marvel that is slowly splitting Africa in two. These lakes, located northwest of Nairobi, offer a glimpse into the continent’s geological history. From the vast depths of Lake Tanganyika to the shallower waters of Lake Nakuru and Naivasha, these lakes are remnants of a future ocean.

Lake Nakuru National Park:

Just a four-hour drive from Nairobi, Lake Nakuru, a 45-square-kilometer soda lake, is a hidden gem within Lake Nakuru National Park. This relatively small park is home to four of the Big Five. The lake’s alkaline waters support a thriving population of flamingos, attracted by the abundant algae.

Lake Naivasha:

Nestled within the Great Rift Valley at an altitude of 1,884 meters, Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake surrounded by swamps, forests, and rock formations. Its size fluctuates with rainfall. Once a landing site for Imperial Airways planes, Lake Naivasha is now a popular destination for Nairobi residents. Enjoy a boat safari among hippos or a guided walking safari.
