Welcome to your new home base at Mweya Safari Lodge! Since you are already here, let’s get you quickly acquainted with where you’ll be sleeping tonight.
If you are staying in one of the fourteen standard rooms, you are in a classic, permanent brick structure that offers a deeply secure and comfortable lodge feel, whether it’s a standalone room or part of a larger building.
For those who have checked into one of the four private cottages, you have your own standalone home away from home. These feature private living areas and lounges perfect for family time, along with shared bathrooms and air conditioning in select rooms to keep you cool.
If you chose one of the four safari tents, you are in for an authentic bush experience. Elevated on wooden platforms under a protective thatched roof, these give you the romance of a canvas tent paired with the comfort of a permanent, en-suite brick bathroom.
The absolute highlight is the Infinity Swimming Pool, which gives you a stunning panoramic view over the Kazinga Channel right where Lake George and Lake Edward meet. You can literally lean over the edge of the water, peer across the channel, and spot wild animals cooling off on the banks below.
There’s a great pool bar with a bartender always on duty to mix your favorite cocktail and keep your drinks ice-cold. When you aren’t swimming, just grab a spot on one of the loungers on the wooden sun deck—it’s the perfect place to soak up the African warmth and watch the wildlife go by. Drop your bags and go check it out!
Your adventure kicks off the moment you step out of the lodge and venture deep into the heart of the park. Keep your eyes locked on the savannah because you are sharing this space with majestic lions, leopards, and giant forest hogs. As you drive through the golden plains, you’ll cruise right past robust herds of buffalos, graceful waterbucks, elegant Uganda kob, and agile topi, while spirited warthogs dash across the tracks. If you look closely near the marshy wetlands, you might even spot the incredibly rare and elusive aquatic sitatunga antelope.
Later in the day, you’ll head down toward the water to witness the park’s absolute crown jewel: the renowned Kazinga Channel. You are going to get up close to the world’s largest congregation of hippos wallowing and splashing in the waters below. Watching these massive families interact alongside majestic elephants coming down to the banks for an evening drink is a spectacle like no other.
