  • Safari Confirmation – Carry a copy of your confirmed itinerary and accommodation details for presentation to immigration officials if required.

For children: Each child must have their own valid passport and the required travel authorisations. Additional documents, such as parental consent, may be required when travelling without one or both parents.

Entry requirements vary according to nationality and may change. Travellers are responsible for checking the latest official requirements for both Kenya and Tanzania before departure.

Travel Requirements For This Tour

International Flights

International flights are not included in your Kenya and Tanzania safari package. They must be booked, paid for and managed directly by you. As this safari starts and ends in Nairobi, flights should be arranged as follows unless otherwise stated in your confirmed itinerary:

Arrival: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Nairobi
Departure: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Nairobi

Bush 2 City Adventure can recommend suitable international flight options that align with your safari itinerary. However, the final booking, payment and management of these flights remain your responsibility.

Before booking, please confirm your travel dates and flight times against the safari itinerary. You should also check passport, visa, Kenya eTA, transit, connection, check-in and baggage requirements for both Kenya and Tanzania.

Bush 2 City Adventure is not responsible for international flight delays, cancellations, missed connections, schedule changes or other disruptions caused by third-party airlines.

Domestic and Regional Flights

Where domestic or regional flights within Kenya and Tanzania are included in your safari, Bush 2 City Adventure will arrange and book them on your behalf. Confirmed flight details will be provided before departure.

Safari flights commonly have strict baggage limits and normally require soft-sided luggage. Please follow the baggage instructions provided with each confirmed flight.

Flight schedules may change because of weather, operational requirements or circumstances beyond our control. If a flight is cancelled or significantly changed before travel, we will assist in finding a suitable available alternative. Once travel has commenced, delays, cancellations and other disruptions remain subject to the operating airline’s conditions.

Important Travel Responsibility

Please ensure your international flights allow sufficient time for immigration, customs, baggage collection, airport transfers and onward connections.

In Nairobi, domestic and regional safari flights commonly depart from Wilson Airport. A road transfer from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport may therefore be required, and sufficient connecting time must be allowed.

If an independently booked international flight causes you to miss part of your safari or a domestic or regional connection, any additional accommodation, transfers, meals, replacement flights or itinerary changes will be at the traveller’s expense.

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering flight delays, cancellations, missed connections, baggage problems and other unexpected travel disruptions.

Health & Medical Considerations

Travellers should be in reasonably good health for a Kenya and Tanzania safari. Some activities may involve early starts, walking, long game drives and travel over rough or uneven terrain.

If you have a medical condition, limited mobility, allergies or other requirements that may affect your safari, consult your doctor before travelling and inform Bush 2 City Adventure in advance.

Vaccinations & Malaria

A valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required for this itinerary because you will travel between Kenya and Tanzania. Keep the original certificate with your passport and carry it when crossing the border.

Malaria is present in parts of both Kenya and Tanzania. Consult your doctor or a qualified travel-health specialist well before departure about malaria prevention and any recommended vaccinations.

Medication, Diet & Insurance

Bring sufficient prescription medication for your entire journey and keep essential medication in your carry-on luggage. Medication should remain in its original labelled packaging, together with a copy of the prescription where appropriate.

Please inform us in advance of any dietary requirements, allergies, medical conditions or mobility needs so that suitable arrangements can be made where possible.

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel and medical insurance covering emergency treatment, evacuation and repatriation.

Health and vaccination requirements may change. Travellers are responsible for obtaining professional medical advice and confirming the current health requirements for both Kenya and Tanzania before departure.

Recommended Safari Reading

Would you like to learn more about Kenya and Tanzania before your safari? These recommended books offer valuable insights into East Africa’s wildlife, landscapes, conservation, cultures and safari heritage.

Our favourites include The Safari Companion by Richard D. Estes and The Kingdon Field Guide to African Mammals by Jonathan Kingdon for identifying and understanding the wildlife you may encounter. Out of Africa by Karen Blixen, Born Free by Joy Adamson and Serengeti Shall Not Die by Bernhard and Michael Grzimek offer memorable perspectives on the region’s history, landscapes and conservation legacy.

Reading is completely optional, but it is an enjoyable way to prepare for your Kenya and Tanzania safari.

Weather

Kenya and Tanzania are year-round safari destinations, generally offering warm days and cooler mornings and evenings. Temperatures vary depending on altitude, season and location, with highland areas such as Nairobi, the Ngorongoro Highlands and parts of the Masai Mara becoming particularly cool after sunset and during early-morning game drives.

The main dry seasons are generally from June to October and from January to February. The long rains usually occur from March to May, while the short rains typically fall between October and December. Rain often arrives as brief afternoon or evening showers, although timing and intensity can vary.

The rainy seasons offer green landscapes, fewer visitors and excellent opportunities for wildlife photography. Pack light clothing for warm days, a fleece or jacket for cool mornings and evenings, and a lightweight waterproof jacket.

We recommend checking the latest forecasts for each destination shortly before departure, as local weather conditions can change.

What to Pack

Pack light, comfortable safari clothing in neutral colours, including lightweight shirts, long trousers and comfortable walking shoes. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent, together with a light jacket or fleece for cooler early-morning and evening game drives in Kenya and Tanzania. A lightweight waterproof jacket is also recommended.

Useful safari essentials include binoculars, a camera, spare batteries or charging equipment, a reusable water bottle, personal medication and all required travel documents. A small flashlight or headlamp may also be useful at safari camps and lodges.

Keep your passport, Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, valuables, essential medication and important travel documents in your carry-on luggage.

If your itinerary includes domestic or regional flights in small safari aircraft, pack light and use soft-sided luggage. Strict baggage weight and size limits may apply, so follow the baggage instructions provided with your confirmed flight details.

Travel Documents for Kenya and Tanzania

For your Kenya and Tanzania safari, please ensure that you have the correct travel documents before departure:

  • Valid Passport – Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry and have sufficient blank pages for visas and immigration stamps.
  • Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) – Most international visitors must obtain an approved eTA before travelling to Kenya. Apply only through the official Kenya eTA portal. Exemptions may apply depending on nationality or residency status.
  • Tanzania Visa – Travellers whose nationality requires a visa must obtain a separate Tanzania visa. Applications can be made through the official Tanzania Immigration eVisa portal.
  • Approved Travel Authorisations – Carry printed or digital copies of your approved Kenya eTA and Tanzania visa when travelling.
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate – Mandatory for This Tour – As this itinerary involves travel between Kenya and Tanzania, every traveller must carry a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate. The certificate may be requested at the border or airport when entering either country.
  • Return or Onward Ticket – Keep confirmation of your return or onward journey available, as immigration officials may request it.
