Travel Requirements For This Tour

International Flights

International flights to and from Kigali, Rwanda, are not included in your safari price. We can assist you in selecting suitable international flights that connect smoothly with your travel dates and safari itinerary; however, you will be responsible for booking and paying for these flights directly.

Please ensure you comply with your chosen airline’s requirements, including check-in times, baggage allowances, checked luggage restrictions, and other travel conditions.

All scheduled airport pick-up and drop-off transfers in Rwanda and Uganda are included as part of your confirmed safari arrangements.

Please note that Bush 2 City Adventure is not responsible for international flight delays, cancellations, schedule changes, missed connections, or delayed, damaged, or lost luggage, even where we have assisted you in selecting suitable flights, as these services remain under the control and responsibility of the airline.

Health, Vaccinations & Fitness

Travelers should be in reasonably good health and consult their doctor or travel clinic before travelling to Rwanda and Uganda, particularly regarding recommended vaccinations and malaria prevention.

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate may be required, depending on the entry requirements and your travel route. Please check the latest requirements for both Rwanda and Uganda before departure.

Gorilla trekking requires a reasonable level of fitness. Treks can last several hours and may involve steep, muddy or uneven forest trails at altitude. We recommend comfortable hiking boots, suitable outdoor clothing and preparation for changing weather conditions.

To protect the gorillas, travelers who are unwell or showing symptoms of contagious illness may not be permitted to participate in the trek, in accordance with the relevant park and wildlife authority regulations.

Please advise us in advance of any dietary requirements, mobility limitations or medical considerations that may affect your safari or trekking experience.

Travelers are responsible for ensuring they meet the health, vaccination and fitness requirements applicable to their journey.

Recommended Safari Reading

Want to learn more about Rwanda and Uganda before your safari? These recommended books offer fascinating insights into the region’s mountain gorillas, wildlife, conservation, cultures and history.

Our favorites include Gorillas in the Mist by Dian Fossey, In the Kingdom of Gorillas by Bill Weber and Amy Vedder, and The Impenetrable Forest by Thor Hanson.

Optional reading, but a great way to enrich your gorilla safari experience.

Weather & Climate

Rwanda and Uganda are year-round destinations, with generally pleasant temperatures influenced by altitude. Kigali is typically warm and comfortable, while the higher elevations of Volcanoes National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park are cooler, wetter and more changeable. Rain can occur at any time of year in the mountain forests, sometimes making gorilla trekking trails muddy and slippery. The drier periods, generally June to September and January to February, tend to offer more comfortable trekking conditions, although gorilla trekking is possible throughout the year. We recommend packing light layers, a warm layer for cool mornings, waterproof clothing and sturdy hiking boots, regardless of your travel month.

What to Pack

Pack light, comfortable clothing with long trousers and long-sleeved shirts suitable for forest trekking. Bring sturdy waterproof hiking boots, a lightweight rain jacket, warm layers for cool mornings, a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. Gardening gloves can also be useful for protecting your hands while trekking through dense vegetation.

Bring your camera, personal medication and essential travel documents, including your passport and gorilla trekking permit details. A small daypack and reusable water bottle are recommended for trekking days.

Keep valuables, important medication and essential travel documents in your carry-on luggage.
