Travel & Medical Insurance
Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is mandatory for every traveller participating in the Mount Kilimanjaro climb because high-altitude trekking involves serious health, rescue, and evacuation risks.
Every traveller must be individually named and covered under the insurance policy. For families or groups, please confirm that all participating members are listed, including children where applicable. Group leaders or the main policyholder should not assume that the other travellers are automatically covered.
The policy must specifically cover:
Please confirm the coverage directly with your insurer, as many standard policies exclude high-altitude trekking, mountain rescue or helicopter evacuation. You should also confirm whether the insurer pays hospitals and rescue providers directly or requires the traveller to pay first and request reimbursement afterward.
Arrange insurance independently before travel. Each traveller may need to provide proof of coverage, including the policy number and the insurer’s emergency contact details, before beginning the climb.
Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be made in writing and are effective once received by Bush 2 City Adventure.
Issued domestic flight tickets are non-refundable, and no refunds are provided for no-shows. We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to protect against eligible cancellation costs.

International Flights
International flights are not included in your Tanzania safari or Mount Kilimanjaro package and must be booked, paid for, and managed directly by you. Unless otherwise stated in your confirmed itinerary, flights should be arranged as follows:
Arrival: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
Departure: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
Bush 2 City Adventure can recommend suitable international flight options that coordinate with your itinerary. However, the final booking, payment, and management of these flights remain your responsibility.
Before booking, check your arrival and departure dates and times against the confirmed itinerary. You should also confirm passport, Tanzania visa, transit, connection, airline check-in and baggage requirements.
Bush 2 City Adventure is not responsible for international flight delays, cancellations, missed connections, schedule changes, or other disruptions caused by third-party airlines.
Important Travel Responsibility
Please ensure your international flights allow sufficient time for immigration, customs, baggage collection, airport transfers and onward connections. If your itinerary includes a domestic flight departing from a different airport, sufficient transfer and connection time must be allowed.
If an independently booked international flight causes you to miss part of your safari, Kilimanjaro climb or domestic connection, any additional accommodation, transfers, meals, replacement flights or itinerary changes will be at the traveller’s expense.
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering flight delays, cancellations, missed connections, baggage and other unexpected travel disruptions.
Health & Medical Considerations
Travellers should be in good physical health for Mount Kilimanjaro trekking. The climb involves several consecutive days of hiking, steep and uneven trails, cold conditions, and high altitude. The wildlife safari may also include early starts, long game drives and travel over rough terrain.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro carries serious altitude-related health risks. Physical fitness does not prevent altitude sickness, so all instructions provided by your mountain guide must be followed carefully.
Consult your doctor or a qualified travel-health specialist before travelling, particularly if you have a heart or respiratory condition, limited mobility, allergies or any other medical concern. Please inform Bush 2 City Adventure in advance of anything that could affect your climb or safari.
Vaccinations & Malaria
A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate may be required when entering Tanzania from, or following an extended transit through, a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission.
Malaria is present in parts of Tanzania, including some safari areas. Consult your doctor well before departure about malaria prevention and any recommended vaccinations.
Medication, Diet & Insurance
Bring sufficient prescription medication for your entire journey and keep essential medication in your carry-on luggage. Medication should remain in its original labelled packaging, with a copy of the prescription where appropriate.
Inform us in advance of any dietary requirements, allergies, medical conditions or mobility needs so that suitable arrangements can be made where possible.
Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is mandatory for every climber. Each traveller must be individually named on the policy, which must cover high-altitude trekking up to at least 6,000 metres, emergency medical treatment, search and rescue, evacuation—including helicopter rescue where available—and repatriation.
Health and vaccination requirements may change. Travellers are responsible for obtaining professional medical advice and confirming Tanzania’s current entry and health requirements before departure.
Recommended Safari Reading
Would you like to learn more about Mount Kilimanjaro and Tanzania’s wildlife before your journey? These recommended books offer helpful insights into high-altitude trekking, wildlife, landscapes, conservation, and safari heritage.
Our favourites include Kilimanjaro: The Trekking Guide to Africa’s Highest Mountain by Henry Stedman for preparing for the climb, together with The Safari Companion by Richard D. Estes and The Kingdon Field Guide to African Mammals by Jonathan Kingdon for identifying and understanding the wildlife you may encounter. Serengeti Shall Not Die by Bernhard and Michael Grzimek also offers a memorable perspective on Tanzania’s conservation legacy.
Reading is entirely optional, but it is an enjoyable way to prepare for your Mount Kilimanjaro climb and Tanzania wildlife safari.
Weather
Weather conditions vary considerably between Mount Kilimanjaro and Tanzania’s safari areas. Safari destinations generally experience warm days and cooler mornings and evenings, while temperatures on Kilimanjaro become progressively colder as the altitude increases.
During the climb, you may experience sunshine, rain, strong winds, mist, and freezing temperatures. Conditions near the summit can fall well below freezing, particularly during the nighttime summit attempt. Proper layered clothing, waterproof equipment and cold-weather gear are essential.
Tanzania’s main rainy seasons generally occur from March to May—the long rains—and between October and December—the short rains. Rainfall often arrives as afternoon or evening showers, although its timing and intensity can vary. Kilimanjaro’s weather is unpredictable, and rain or snow may occur at any time of year.
We recommend checking the latest forecasts shortly before departure while remaining prepared for rapidly changing conditions on the mountain and during the wildlife safari.
What to Pack
This itinerary includes both Mount Kilimanjaro trekking and a Tanzania wildlife safari. Pack your Kilimanjaro equipment separately between your daypack and main duffel bag, while keeping your safari clothing light and practical.
Kilimanjaro Daypack
You will carry your daypack throughout each trekking day. It should contain only the items you may need while walking:
A daypack of approximately 25–35 litres is normally suitable.
Kilimanjaro Main Duffel Bag
Your porter will carry the main duffel bag between camps. Pack items that are not required while walking:
Use a strong, waterproof or water-resistant soft-sided duffel bag. Suitcases and wheeled luggage are unsuitable for the mountain. Strict porter weight limits apply, so follow the final baggage instructions provided before departure.
Essential Kilimanjaro Clothing and Equipment
Bring sturdy, waterproof hiking boots that have already been worn and broken in. You will also need moisture-wicking base layers, warm mid-layers, waterproof outer clothing and insulated summit clothing.
Avoid cotton while trekking because it absorbs moisture and dries slowly. Pack clothing that can be layered and adjusted as temperatures change.
Important climbing items include:
Wildlife Safari Packing
After the climb, pack light and comfortable clothing for your Tanzania safari:
Avoid bright colours and camouflage-patterned clothing. Evenings and early-morning game drives can be cool, particularly around the Ngorongoro Highlands.
General Packing and Travel Essentials
Keep the following in your carry-on luggage:
Pack valuables, medication and important documents separately from the duffel bag carried by the mountain porters. Label all luggage clearly and leave unnecessary valuables at home.
If your itinerary includes a domestic safari flight, use soft-sided luggage and follow the confirmed airline’s baggage weight and size restrictions.
