Birds – Grumeti GR
Grumeti Reserve is a haven for bird enthusiasts, with over 500 bird species documented within its bounds. This park plays a crucial role in the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, recognized as one of Africa’s Endemic Bird Areas (EBAs), and it is home to five unique bird species that are not found anywhere else. Among these, the grey-breasted spurfowl frequently makes an appearance around Seronera, while Fischer’s lovebird and the rufous-tailed weaver—remarkable for being the sole species in its genus—tend to populate the woodlands. The Usambiro barbet and the grey-crested helmet-shrike, though present, might be more challenging to spot. Seasonal migrations bring a variety of migratory birds to the park from November to April, further enriching the biodiversity of this extraordinary habitat.
