Outside the Lodge, the bustling town of Arusha offers an engaging excursion. The Maasai market is a fascinating one-stop shop for unique handicrafts made of ebony and redwood. For a thrilling day trip, visit the Ngorongoro Crater, a massive, unbroken volcanic caldera formed two to three million years ago. Today, it spans 100 square miles and plunges 2,000 feet deep. Equally captivating is a day spent exploring Arusha National Park, which boasts a stunning variety of habitats. Discover shadowy montane forests, inquisitive blue monkeys, rainbow-hued turacos and trogons, and the black-and-white colobus monkey—the only place on the northern safari circuit where these delightful creatures can be easily spotted.
