Day 2: Afternoon Safari in Masai Mara

Today, you embark on a six-hour drive from Nairobi to the Masai Mara National Reserve, where you’ll be greeted by the stunningly beautiful savannah plains—a truly jaw-dropping sight!

After lunch, you'll get your first glimpse of these plains, teeming with wildlife. The Masai Mara adjoins Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, and together they host Africa’s most famous spectacle: the annual Wildebeest Migration. Over 2.5 million animals traverse the plains of the Serengeti and Masai Mara, following seasonal rains in pursuit of lush grazing.

The reserve is named in honor of the Maasai people (also spelled Masai), who have inhabited this region since migrating from the Nile Basin centuries ago. 'Mara' translates to 'spotted' in the Maa language, reflecting a landscape dotted with numerous short bushy trees across the vast

Today in the Masai Mara, you have the entire day to immerse yourself in its rich wildlife. The National Reserve boasts over 95 species of animals and more than 400 bird species. From mid-September to mid-October, you can witness the spectacular great migration, when vast herds of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, antelopes, and impalas attempt to cross the Mara River.

During other months, the Masai Mara still offers the chance to see the famous Big Five, along with cheetahs, servals, hyenas, bat-eared foxes, black-backed or side-striped jackals, hippos, crocodiles, baboons, warthogs, topis, elands, waterbucks, oribis, reedbucks, and many more. It's a fantastic way to conclude your safari adventure!

Day 5: Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park, positioned on the border between Kenya and Tanzania, is a seven to eight-hour drive from Lake Naivasha. You'll arrive just in time for a picturesque afternoon game drive at sunset.

Spanning nearly 400 square kilometers, Amboseli offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. The park is celebrated for its large herds of free-roaming elephants, providing an excellent opportunity for you to capture iconic photographs of these majestic animals with Africa’s tallest freestanding mountain as the backdrop.

Until 2020, the park served as a sanctuary for a remarkable bull elephant named Tim. This impressive animal quickly became a highlight of Amboseli due to his massive size and distinctive tusks that touched the ground. Tim was about 50 years old when he passed away in February 2020.

Day 6
Amboseli National Park
Day 6: Amboseli National Park

We recommend waking up early today to experience a sunrise game drive — the best time to see animals in their most active state.

Dedicate the entire day to game drives, giving you ample opportunity to fully explore Amboseli National Park. Spanning 392 square kilometers, the park features acacia woodlands, rocky thorny bushes, marshland swamps, and a Pleistocene lake. Here, you'll encounter a rich array of wildlife including giraffes, zebras, buffalos, and, of course, elephants. You might also spot big cats like lions, cheetahs, and leopards.

The local Maasai people, who live nearby, originally named the park. "Kioko Lake," often drying up during the dry season, leaves behind ashy soil known as "Amboseli" to the Maasai, giving the park its name. During your visit, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Maasai culture by visiting one of their villages.
