Set out to sea aboard a dhow on a private cruise for an “Indian Ocean safari” – keeping your eyes peeled for dolphins frolicking in the waves. Cast anchor off a beach for lunch in a paradise of white sands and turquoise sea… and perhaps swimming and snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters off beautiful coral reefs.

13 - DAY ITINERARY

Day - By - Day

  • Day 1 | Arrival at Kigali International Airport - Rwanda

    International arrival at Kigali airport. Meet and greet by our representative in the airport who will assist your will all procedures of the immigration and assist to collect your bags. We’ll settle at Kigali Serena Hotel, a good base for our wanderings in these almost supernaturally verdant precincts.

    Ask anyone that’s visited Rwanda’s highlands, and you’ll likely hear praise for a rare, captivating, and life-changing experience. Ours carefully orchestrated visits begin in Kigali, Rwanda’s charming capital, which we’ll tour before heading northwest to the Virunga Volcanoes, a stately chain of jungle volcanoes that peak at Mount Karisimbi’s 14,787 feet, higher than any Rocky or the Sierra Nevada.

  • Day 2 | Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

    Today after taking your early morning breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to visit the Kigali genocide memorial grounds, which honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peacebuilding. You will be able to watch and listen to some video clips from some of the survivors of the incident. After lunch, you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park. We’ll settle at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, a good base for our wanderings in these almost supernaturally verdant precincts.

    Bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rwanda, the Volcanoes National Park is best known as a sanctuary for the region’s rare mountain gorillas. Visitors flock here to experience a face-to-face encounter with these intriguing creatures. The park is set high on the jungle-covered slopes of the volcanic Virunga Mountains. Highly regulated treks through the reserve allow visitors to spend an hour at a time with these incredible primates in their natural habitat. While the gorillas are without a doubt the main drawcard, visitors can also look forward to exploring a network of scenic hiking trails, visiting the tomb of the world-famous Dian Fossey and the Karisoke Research Centre, and enjoying a beautiful day hike to the crater lake on Mount Bisoke.

  • Day 3 | Gorilla Trekking at Volcanoes National Park

    After an early morning, we will drive to volcanoes National Park from Kigali, you will be transferred to the park headquarters. You will meet with your ranger who will brief you about the code of conduct while with the gorillas led by our guide and his crew, we’ll begin making our way through a forest of trailing vines, bird calls, and mossy agenda trees – a Jurassic, emerald world – walking toward an encounter with one of the park’s ten habituated families of mountain gorillas; no more than eight people are allowed to visit any given family for more than an hour each day. Seeing a 450-pound male only a few yards away is something you’ll want to tell your grandchildren’s children about.

    The trekking may take 2–6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in the jungle and your group speed as well. After a great experience, you will walk back to the starting point and be transferred to your wilderness retreats at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, you can decide to Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, relax at your lodge at your leisure, or head for a cultural encounter at Iby’ Iwacu cultural site to get an insight of Rwandan culture.

  • Day 4 | Golden Monkey & jouney to Arusha, Tanzania

    Early morning cup of coffee, then prepare for the golden monkey briefing from the park headquarters, and thereafter, you will enter the jungle with your packed snacks to search the shy primates and enjoy their lifestyle in their real home. After meeting the golden monkeys, you can sit around these great apes for a whole hour watching their social life as you take pictures. On a golden monkey trek. After trekking, we will go for lunch before being transferred back to Kigali to the airport for your departure flight to Kilimanjaro Airport.

    Upon Arrival: Kilimanjaro International Airport

    When you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, we will collect and transfer you to your first night at the Arusha Coffee Lodge. The short journey between the airport and your hotel is enough to get you tingling with excitement for the African tour ahead. Memories of Ernest Hemingway’s - The Snows of Kilimanjaro will come to mind as you marvel at the nature around you.

  • Day 5 | Mto wa Mbu Village, Lake Manyara & on to Ngorongoro

    In the morning, depart from the Arusha for a morning spent learning about life in the bush of Africa with an introduction to Northern Tanzania Culture and people when Visit Mto Wa Mbu Village walking. Early this afternoon make your way to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge, where you will eat lunch overlooking Lake Manyara. This bird-lovers paradise is your first taste of African wildlife to come.

    Later enjoy your first game viewing opportunity inside the park – lake Manyara is famous for tree-climbing lion, this is just a few things to come you will see giraffe, warthog, and grumpy Cape buffalo just to mention few. End of afternoon en-route Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. This area of the land is a wildlife mecca and one not to be missed on your trip.

    Join us for a welcome reception and dinner at the lodge. Built on the dormant volcano's rim, take in breathtaking views over the “lost world” below.

  • Day 6 | Game Drive & a Picnic in Ngorongoro Crater

    On Day 3, explore Africa’s “Garden of Eden” - the Ngorongoro Crater. Begin your Luxury Tanzania Safari with a game drive over the “lost world’ of Ngorongoro Crater. You will see grasslands, forests, and freshwater lakes that inspire the continual migration of animals. Today is the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of Africa’s notorious Big Five, i.e., buffalo, elephants, leopards, black-maned lions, and the rare black rhinoceros, as well as herds of zebras, wildebeest, and gazelles roaming life-giving landscapes. At the end of your migration safari, enjoy dinner and local entertainment. At your lodge, you’ll be able to observe Ngorongoro’s wildlife-rich caldera below from the comfort of your private terrace.

  • Day 7 | Visit Oldupai Gorge en root to Serengeti

    Study the development of humankind at Oldupai Gorge. This is where archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey discovered some of the earliest known human species’ fossilized remains, an estimated 1.8 million years old. Learn all about the significance of such a site during your docent-led tour. Afterward, you will ride along rough dirt roads while taking in some more wildlife viewing en route to your lodge in the Serengeti, which was inspired by Maasai tribal dwellings. Have dinner at your leisure and enjoy some local entertainment in the lounge in the evening.

  • Day 8 | Balloon over the Serenegti & Game Viewing

    View the African plains from above. On Day 5, take a mesmerizing hot air balloon flight as dawn breaks over the stunning Serengeti grasslands. Observe the wildlife during the first light of day, which is sure to be an African safari highlight.

    After landing below, indulge in a champagne breakfast in the bush. This experience is sure to mark an unforgettable day.

    In the afternoon, embark on a game drive throughout the Serengeti plains, where sightings of wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, hyenas, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, rhinoceros, hippos, buffalo, jackals, and gazelles are frequent. Not only that, but this area of land is the best place on the continent to see the pride of lions.

    After much excitement, return to your lodge for lunch and an afternoon of leisure. Lectures will be held at the lodge by an expert if you wish to learn more throughout the afternoon. In the evening ahead, experience a sundowner with filmmaking gadgets before having dinner at the lodge.

  • Day 9 | On to the Western Serengeti

    Today we travel Serengeti’s remote Western Corridor, known for huge masses of migrating game animals seen thundering across the terrain. Tonight we stay at Grumeti, a luxurious tented camp in the remote Grumeti River region. A truly unique African safari experience. Some animals you might see during your afternoon game drive include wildebeest, lion, buffalo, cheetah, warthogs, giraffes, and zebra as you ride across the treeless plains of the Serengeti.

  • Day 10 | Wildlife Enconter on the Serengeti plains

    Private safari game drives in Amboseli National Park offer an opportunity to view elephants, hippos, and buffaloes seeking the park’s natural watering holes and graceful antelopes grazing in the flat grasslands. An early morning visit to a Maasai village precedes a morning game drive, after which you’ll return to the lodge for breakfast. Spend time at leisure before lunch, then another game drive, and time to spend as you please at the lodge for the remainder of the afternoon. Enjoy an included dinner at your leisure at the lodge this evening.

  • Day 11 | To Zanzibar & a Stone Town "Spice Walk"

    Please sit back and relax as we transfer you from the plains to the ocean. Once we arrive, enjoy a cultural tour of the stone town and learn all about the rich history of Zanzibar and beyond.

    Stay the night at the Park Hyatt as you change over to the luxury beach vacation section of your adventure.

  • Day 12 | Cruise Indian Ocean on a Dhow Safari

    Dhows, the traditional Arabian sailboat, have ruled the Indian Ocean waters of the Swahili Coast for centuries. Set sail on one of these traditional sailboats from Zanzibar “Stone Town” for an Indian Ocean safari. Pay attention as the friendly captain and crew guide you to see dolphins playing in the great ocean blue before we cast anchor on the sandy beach for some light swimming or snorkeling over some coral reefs if you desire.

    When back at shore, take the time to check out the rest of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and fascinating Stone Town.

    Later on, meet us back at the hotel for a reception followed by dinner while gazing over the ocean once more.

  • Day 13 | Jouney Onward

    Time to say goodbye! Today, your tour ends, and you fly back home. Beforehand, join us and our local guides for a spice tour of Stone Town. Alternatively, take some leisure time to do as you please before checking out of your hotel. In the afternoon, fly from Zanzibar to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, where you will catch your flight back home.

    Important to note: Allow 3.5 hours for your flight check-in. You should only book International flights for after 9 pm.
