Zambia's Enigmatic
Beauty

The landlocked country of Zambia's geography is defined by the three great rivers of Kafue, Luangwa, and the mighty Zambezi that flow through it. Zambia might be smaller than most other African countries, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in biodiversity and abundance of natural water resources.

Back in the 50s, Zambia was the pioneer of walking safaris, setting the trend for the purest and most exciting way of experiencing Africa's wilderness. If you're traveling here, expect to be greeted by warm and friendly locals, authenticity, and a safari experience that's as down to earth as they come.

With more than 33% of the landmass of Zambia designated to national parks, there's an epic adventure waiting around every corner in this country. Ready to explore it all? Here's where to go!

FAQ

Leveraging nearly a decade of expertise, we’re excited to offer tailored insights into Zambia’s safaris. Our aim is to address your crucial queries and offer invaluable tips for an extraordinary journey. Enhance your safety and elevate your experience by heeding these vital recommendations:

Currency and Time:

The currency used in Zambia is the Zambian Kwacha (ZKW). Zambia operates in the Central Africa Time Zone (CAT), which is GMT +2 hours, aligning with the rest of Southern Africa.

Credit Cards:

Unfortunately, credit card facilities are not widely available in Zambia, including at Wilderness camps. Cash payment is accepted, and debit card transactions are permitted.

Power Sockets:

Zambia’s power sockets are typically 230V with two round plugs or three round/rectangular prongs. If you’re from the UK or Europe, you may need an adapter for your devices.

Packing for Safari:

Consider possible luggage restrictions and chat with your Travel Designer for personalized advice. Generally, pack warm clothing for cooler months and light attire for summer. Avoid bright colors and white.

Best Time to Visit:

While there’s no specific best time for a Zambia safari, our Kafue National Park camps operate during the dry season from June to October. Victoria Falls is magnificent year-round, with peak viewing between February and May when water flow is highest post-summer rains.

Victoria Falls Location:

Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya, lies on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, forming part of the Zambezi River. The Falls can be seen from both Livingstone (Zambia) and Victoria Falls town (Zimbabwe).

Safety in Livingstone:

Livingstone is relatively safe, but be cautious of petty crimes like pickpocketing. Avoid walking at night due to the possibility of wild animals. Opt for taxis for your safety.

Visa Requirements:

Travelers to Zambia generally need a visa. You can obtain a 90-day visa upon arrival at any entry point, or opt to apply online before your trip. If you’re visiting the Zambian side of Mosi-oa-Tunya from Zimbabwe or Botswana, you can also acquire a single entry or day visa.

COVID Protocol:

Your safety is paramount, and our protocols align with recommendations from key authorities like the World Health Organization. These measures ensure secure environments and experiences throughout your stay in Zambia. Keep updated with the latest travel advisory and consult your Travel Designer for the most current COVID travel requirements.

Yellow Fever Vaccination:

A yellow fever vaccination is necessary only if you’re arriving in Zambia from a country with yellow fever risk.

Malaria Tablets:

For your health, consult your Travel Designer or travel clinic several weeks ahead of your departure. Depending on the medication, some courses might require starting before your Zambia visit.
